Four Corners National Monument

Memorial Day, May 31st

Today was mostly a travel day, going from Bryce City, UT to Cortez, CO approx. 400 miles. This was the longest scheduled travel date between national parks. Leaving Bryce we again crossed over the Glen Canyon Dam at Lake Powell (picture 1), and headed for the Four Corners National Monument. I had planned to stand in four states at one time, Utah, Colorado, Arizona & New Mexico. Before we came to the corners we took a side trip to Monument Valley, a Navajo run park. It amounted to numerous rock spires scattered throughout a valley, many types of which we had seen before, (picture 2). We must have added 75-100 miles to our trip. Finally we reached Four Corners National Monument and saw the sign in picture 3. There is construction going on to create a monument that depicts the four states in a circular manner all surrounding the supposed point at which these states touch each other (picture 4). The only people at this place were approximately 20-25 Navajo people selling their wares. We finally arrived in Cortez, CO late in the day.
